      KOMPLEX

Author's Manifesto

Komplex is not a story about the future,
nor a commentary on current events.

It is a world in which I explore how to preserve oneself within a greater structure.

The Wall marks the boundary of knowledge.
The Tower stands at the center of order.
Between them, human lives unfold.

The Tower is not cruel.
It functions. It endures.

People adapt.
Sometimes they doubt.

Resistance in the Komplex does not

change the system.
It is proof that a human being still thinks.

Komplex is a project about memory and will.
About the attempt to preserve oneself.

Introductory Record

KOMPLEX — official designation: KOMPLEX K-12 — is a closed city of unknown scale, surrounded by a Wall that no resident has ever crossed.

At its center stands The Tower — a structure overseeing the functioning of the City through a network of institutions, offices, and automata collectively known as the AparaÌŠt.

The City is divided into countless spaces known as Niches. They are separated by high walls that also cut through the interior of the KOMPLEX. Some Niches are no larger than a single room, while others stretch across areas resembling entire cities.

The Wall marks the boundary of the world.

The Niches mark the boundaries of life within it.

The daily life of the inhabitants is regulated by thousands of procedures, instructions, and algorithms. This system — known as procedural oppression — is a self-improving mechanism that does not require brutal force in order to maintain control.

Observation is commonplace in the KOMPLEX.

Cameras, sensors, and drones are part of the natural landscape of the City. Nearly every aspect of life is monitored. It is often said that system sees everything, yet remains blind.

Disappearances are not uncommon. Usually nothing remains. Sometimes only clothes.

No one remembers the beginning of the KOMPLEX.

No one knows what lies beyond the Wall.

The Tower does not provide answers.

A record of a journey through the forgotten entrails of KOMPLEX.
A chronicle of things terrible and beautiful, hidden from the Tower’s gaze. For even here, there are places no searchlight can reach.
